Bright Ascension charity challenge — Mission complete

Taking on the combined miles challenge
Back in September, we set out on a mission to walk, run, cycle, swim — and even paddle — our way towards a shared goal in support of The Yard, a charity that creates inclusive play experiences for children and young people with additional support needs.
We’re delighted to report that the challenge is complete, and the results are nothing short of stellar.
Total distance travelled
4,268 km — far enough to take us all the way from Edinburgh to Mali, deep into the Sahara Desert.
That’s the equivalent of:
- Walking across the UK almost seven times, or
- Running a marathon every week for over a year

Total payload carried
217,897 kg transported collectively across the challenge.
To put that into perspective, that’s roughly:
- Almost half the mass of the International Space Station
- A blue whale (and a bit!)
- 36 African elephants
- 485 polar bears
Even better, that “payload” wasn’t literal — it represents the miles, effort, and commitment of our team coming together.

Funds raised
Thanks to the incredible efforts and generosity of the team and supporters, we have raised: £425
matched pound-for-pound by us, bringing the final total to:
£850 raised for The Yard!
We’re incredibly proud of our colleagues who got involved — whether you contributed miles, muscle, or morale. Your support will help The Yard continue providing vital spaces where children with additional support needs can play, connect, and thrive.
Thank you to everyone who joined in, donated, or cheered us on. Until the next mission!
